How to Choose the Right Shoe Fit
Fit is everything when it comes to footwear — a shoe that doesn’t fit well won’t be worn, no matter how good it looks. Here’s how to get it right.
Measure at the end of the day
Your feet swell slightly through the day, so measure them in the afternoon or evening for a true reading. If one foot is larger, fit to the larger foot.
Leave a thumb’s width
You want roughly a thumb’s width of space between your longest toe and the end of the shoe. Too little and your toes will jam; too much and your foot slides.
Consider the shape
Different styles fit differently. A pointed toe runs narrow, a rounded toe gives more room, and boots often need a slightly wider fit to accommodate socks.
Try them on both feet
Walk around on a hard floor before you commit. The heel should stay in place and the arch should feel supported — discomfort in the first five minutes rarely improves later.
